Ongoing Policy Recommendations
Every month, NYPA highlights a key issue impacting young Canadians. For October, we are developing actionable policy recommendations focused on preventing crime against youth — both as victims and as those at risk of criminalization.
Our research emphasizes the urgent need for early intervention, education, and community partnerships to ensure safety and opportunity for all young people. We are currently drafting proposals that:
-
Strengthen support systems in schools to detect early signs of violence or exploitation.
-
Expand youth mentorship and after-school engagement programs.
-
Advocate for trauma-informed policing and youth justice reform.
-
Promote digital safety education and cybercrime prevention initiatives.
Through these recommendations, NYPA seeks to ensure that youth are not merely protected from harm — but empowered to shape safer communities themselves.
